Wyatt's 1st Birthday

Wyatt, 21 months

My dearest Wyatt,

today you are 2 years old. This year has been a big one for you!

You learned to walk & talk, you have learned to count, your colors (you call everything "red" even though you know it's not!) and how to be more independent. Everything is, "No, I'll do it". You got your first pair of shoes, and also got to play outside in the snow (you call it "know") for the first time.

You are such a smart, curious little boy! You are generally a daredevil ~ climbing, running, jumping, and leaping as you go. And you are always doing your best to keep up with Jacob. Because of both of those things, you tend to get lots of bumps, bruises, & scrapes. Just this week you fell in to a table and separately tumbled into a chair ~ both resulting in goose eggs on your forehead. But you are also one tough little dude ~ we always say that God created you especially tough knowing that you were going to be so BOY-ish, and you cry for a minute or two, then brush it off and move on to playing or back to whatever it was that caused you to get hurt in the first place. You have (almost) no fear, scary as that is!

::

You are interested in animals, particularly horses & dogs. You LOVE trucks (you call them "gucks") & trains and anything your big brother is doing. You and Jacob love to spend equal amounts of time playing together and "fighting" or "arguing" together. You take things from each other and generally have a "what's mine is mine, what's yours is mine" thought process :)

We moved the two of you in to the same bedroom together, and it's gone relatively well ~ though I feel badly that you don't get quite enough rest, as Jacob loves to wake you up to play & start the day - and you'd prefer to sleep in a bit, or at least until after the sun comes up!

::

You are a Daddy's boy and you adore both of your Papas. You will do anything with and for them, including sharing snacks, fixing appliances, or sitting and watching movies with horses in them.

::

Wyatt, you are my incredibly stubborn, middle child for sure! We have sent you to bed a few times without eating, because you flat-out refused to try a bite of what was put in front of you. You frequent the phrase, "No I don't want to!" and generally cause your parents to grit their teeth when we have to physically make you help pick up toys. We continue to say that your strong will and determination will serve you well one day, but currently, you are giving us gray hairs!

::

Wyatt, this year you became a big brother to Nathaniel. It is such a fitting role for you! As you look up to your big brother, I know Nate already does the same to you. You are (mostly) gentle and loving with Baby Nate, and you frequently ask where he is, if he's out of sight. You are curious about this little baby, and I look forward to see how your relationship changes as Nate becomes more interactive and mobile.

Wyatt, this time of year is a special one. I know that it's tough to share your birthday with such a big holiday, but please know that I think your time of birth is pretty neat. I will always think of the memories that surround your birth as such amazing ones: we were able to forego the hustle and bustle of the holidays to only celebrate YOU! What an awesome gift. It truly is a reminder that Christmas Eve & Day are just days, and are not supposed to be about presents and food, but they are to represent the best gift of all: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Nothing could have been a better reminder of that than you.

It's hard to believe that you've been a part of our family for 2 years, sweet boy. It seems like the blink of an eye, yet forever at the same time. 2 years ago on this day, I became the mother of two. And my heart, my life, was forever changed. And I am forever grateful for you, this precious gift.

Happy second Birthday, my sweet second son!

All my love, today & always,

Mommy
